Squash Director, David Heath

David Heath

New Squash Director David Heath joined the club in October 2010. David has a solid background of playing and international coaching experience and results. He has played and coached around the UK and mainland Europe, in South Africa, and in North and South America.

A member of the Scottish National Team from 1996-2002, David represented Scotland in four European Championships, two World Championships and in the 1998 Commonwealth Games. He was also the winner of several professional events worldwide, and has had victories over several players ranked in the World’s top 50 in tournament and league play. David was the Scottish Universities squash champion in 1994 and 1995. He captained two Scottish University Teams to victory in 1995, earning him University “Blues” in squash from both Glasgow and Strathclyde Universities.

As a coach, David has worked with players of all ages and abilities, from top level junior and senior players to players just starting out in the game. David has coached many nationally and internationally top-ranked senior and junior players and teams in several countries. In 2009-2010 when David coached the Liechtenstein junior squad they won more medals than any other on the Swiss Junior Circuit. He has also coached the men’s and women’s national teams of Liechtenstein to several podium finishes over several years in the European Small Nation’s Championships, and the men’s Peruvian team to their highest ever finish of 7th in the Pan-American Games in Winnipeg in 1999.

David has experience in running workshops and seminars in areas of sports psychology such as competition and strategy and mental toughness in sport. He is also a qualified High School French teacher and speaks German and Spanish.

Squash Adminstrator, Diane Naughton

Diane Naughton

Originally from England, Diane Naughton has been a familiar sight and active squash member at ORC for almost six years. She brings twenty five years of squash experience, including competitive squash at the Toronto and District level over the past five years. Her assistance with the junior and school coaching combined with great organizational and communication skills make her well suited to take on the role of Squash Coordinator.

Diane is part of a very enthusiastic squash playing family. Her daughter Hollie, is currently ranked #1 in Canada in the girls U17 category and is part of the Junior National Squad. This great achievement is the result of Hollie’s hard work and dedication to the sport. She also helps out with the junior coaching at the ORC and is a great role model to all aspiring young players at the club.
