Developmental AcademyThe developmental academy runs for 35 weeks between September and June. All classes except Mini Futures are 1.5 hours of tennis and .5 hours of physical training.Mini Futures (5-7yearsold*) The mini futures class will develop players from mini tennis to 1/2 court tennis. Players will acquire technical proficiency according to national norms in all stroke families (ground strokes, volleys, serve / overhead). Players will also develop basic tactical knowledge giving them the ability to cope with the most common situations they deal with in matches and allow them to implement simple strategy. Futures Squad (8-11yearsold*) Players entering this program will be in the “learning to train” phase of their development, consequently there will be a large emphasis on creating the necessary values that will make it possible for the players to develop into high performance players. On top of these mental skills, players will also be laying the foundation for future success by ensuring that there are no technical “red flags” that would impede their progress in the future. Tactically, players will be given basic tactical tools that will help them to understand not just how to hit the ball, but also how to play. The final part of the player package will be their physical development. Players will receive the necessary physical work for their age to ensure that they develop to their full potential, not just as a tennis player, but also as a whole athlete. Satellite Squad (12-15 years old*) The Satellite Squad is the 3rd level of the ORC Academy. In this 3rd program players are expected to arrive to with appropriate training habits. The program will be high intensity and very focused. It is also the first level of the academy that fully utilizes regular tennis balls and full-length courts. There will be a strong emphasis on reception skills (learning to receive the ball and set up with proper footwork) to ensure they make the graduation to full court tennis effectively. Players in this program have already been taught fundamental technical and tactical skills. Here they will further those skills and start to develop a more advanced technique along with a broader understanding of how to play the game tactically. Satellite 2 Squad (15-18*) Players at this level enjoy competing at a regional and provincial level. They will have the chance to continually improve their game and understanding of the sport. This class helps players gear towards the instructor level of coaching a summer job, and enjoyment of the game. Challenger Squad The Challenger Squad is geared toward players with competitive tennis as a goal. This program is designed to ensure players are capable and prepared to play at a provincial level. Players at this level will work hard at mastering previous technical and tactical skills and be taught the more sophisticated elements of the game. There will also be a strong emphasis on building the mentality of a competitor including match preparation, tactical awareness, pre point rituals etc. Tour Squad The Tour Squad is the highest level of the ORC Tennis Academy. This program is designed for players who have already mastered technical fundamentals. This program will develop players tactically, physically, and mentally. Players entering this program who have any “technical red flags” that will make it impossible for them to reach there full potential will be required to work privately to address these issues. I will give a report to each player after the first couple weeks of the season to outline the technical issues they need to address. Players failing to make the necessary improvements could be removed from the program. As our top program, players at this level will have much expected of them, it will be a very intense practice environment. Players who cannot meet the minimum required intensity or work ethic could be removed from the program. ORC Performance AcademyThe performance academy runs for 35 weeks between September and June. The academy is geared towards serious competitive tennis players with aspirations of college or international tennis. Players must be accepted into this program by the Tennis Director. Acceptance will be based on ability, enthusiasm, training habits, tournament results, and potential.Entry to Performance: Program enrolment is completely at the discretion of the Tennis Director and Program Leader.
