If you are looking for a well-rounded activity for your child a Karate program is one activity that can give your child many benefits.  It can help improve a child confidence, increase their self esteem, offers plenty of vigorous exercise that your child has fun doing them, plus could teach them issues on bullying, personal safety and self defense.  A Karate program is a well-rounded activity creating a balance for any child because it combines the mind, body and spirit.  Karate training can result in a stronger sense of commitment, a more humble attitude, a greater sense of awareness and compassion.

The result is that those who study Karate can gain a number of benefits from their training, which can be seen on a physical, mental and even spiritual level. The child is taught Kata’s, which is a form of movements using both hands and feet.  The Karate student is also taught stances, combinations, street proofing and personal safety techniques.

Karate which translates into “the way of the empty hand” uses a series of different coloured belts to show the students rank. Karate students are graded from white belts to black. Your child must achieve a number of red stripe levels on each belt before going to grading.  Each belt is worn around a uniform called a Gi.  The sensei or teacher tests each student to decide whether they are ready to move to the next level. “Karate is the best. It’s great for the mind and spirit, plus it’s a lot of fun, says 14-year-old Evan who has been taken Karate for the last 2 years at the ORC Karate Academy. Karate doesn’t have to break the parent’s pocket book either.

At the ORC Karate Academy your child can do an after school program for an entire school year usually earning them their yellow belt for under $350.00.  There are no grading fees and the only other expense is the uniform, which usually lasts 2 to 3 years. Non-members are most welcomed.

These are the reasons why your child should join a Karate program.

  • Builds Confidence
  • Teachers Discipline
  • Develops Character
  • Social Interaction
  • Relieves Stress
  • Improves Coordination
  • Teachers Street Proofing
  • Fitness & Flexibility
  • Plus, its a lot of Fun

“Karate should be taught as a form of self defense and not a form of fighting of which it is not”, says Sensei Kirk who is the head instructor at the ORC Karate Academy.  Sensei Kirk is a 3rd Degree Black Belt with over 20 years teaching and instructing 1000’s of children, preteens and teenagers Karate, Personal Safety and Self Defense.  He is also the author of the best seller Common Sense Self Defense for Preteens and Teenagers.  He can be reached at (905) 822 -5240 ext 612 or at www.forteensonly.ca
